When to Come

ReelFlyFishing.com -- Catarack Brook TroutThe mountain streams open in Mid June, most years you will find the water high, dirty and cold. By early July most of the streams will be in good fishing shape, right in time for the Calgary Stampede. Mid August will have long days with great hatches and lower water levels and the big guys will be smashing Hoppers. Myself, I like September, the kids are in school, and the rivers are very peaceful as the leaves start to change colour. Mid October closes the prime part of the season with some good BWO hatches. The streams official close Nov 1st, by then ice has formed and the trout have moved to the safety of their wintering holes.
